A movie I’ve always heard about, but never seen is now in my DVD player. Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai is an amazing movie. The story, actors, and direction is outstanding. It’s an action film with heart and smarts. Over 3 hours long, the film is never boring. My only regret about the film? I could have seen it on a big screen on camput, but backed on going. This movie needs a big screen.
Anyway, bandits are attacking the village, I must return to film. All I can say is wow.
PS: I wrote this last night while watching the movie. I was so engrossed I didn’t realize that I never posted it!

Sounds like a movie night at my house is in the works! Think the kids would like it?

Sure! I’m guessing they’ll have no problem with Japanese dialogue and English subtitles and all packed into a tidy 3 and a half hours.
Actually, I think you and Larry would enjoy it. It’s the first movie where a team of people meet and form for a mission. Think of the Guns of Navarone. Many movie cliches were first used here.
Anyway, I found myself crying at moments of great emotion in the film and also cheering the samurai and the farmers on as they battle the bandits. The length and style of the movie just helps you get into it.
I just read that Criterion has finished up a restored version of the film with major print improvements. I feel a Christmas present request coming on.
