Tonight’s DVD is a disc of the old Dick Cavett shows with comics. The Groucho Marx interview, if that’s what you call it, was fun. Cavett didn’t have to ask any questions as Groucho just ran with it.
I loved the Woody Allen interview. Filmed in 1969 I got to see Allen do a push-up. Strange and funny.
The last interview with a comic is a 90-minute interview with Bob Hope. I’m surprised as it’s a delight. I thought it would be a series of tacky one-liners, but Hope is entertaining as he talks about the old days.
Cavett gives his guests time to set up a joke, to answer questions in depth, and to lead his guests into interesting stories. Too bad we don’t have shows like that anymore.
