Well, Judd Apatow did not disappoint me. His latest film, Knocked Up, is funny, touching, and raunchy. Just like his 40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up can be disgustingly filthy-funny, but have you in tears at the same time. Seth Rogen, Katherine Heigl, Leslie Mann, and Paul Rudd just nail their parts. For all their ability to make us laugh, their characters also seem to be very real people. Shoot, the fights feel real. I’m writing a review of the film, but it will not show up here for another week and a half, at the earliest. I just want you to know that it is worth paying the tickets for the movie.
Though be warned.
It’s also one of those movies that end up as very baby-worshipping. It’s these kinds of films that can make having babies seem like such a fun idea until reality hits. I’m not knocking babies. I’ve often thought that having children would be awesome, but there is a time and place. Movies like this could brainwash you into having kids sooner than later. Of course, it also makes you laugh at the foibles of pregnancy and parenting. So if you take your bride to the movie, or your sweetheart, or if you are a female of child-bearing age sitting through the movie, just know that it could all of your brains into “I Want to Be a Parent – Now!” mode. Well, how can it not? It’s all those baby pictures during the closing credits. They’re just too cute.
