I finally saw the classic film Network tonight. As the opening film in the NAU spring film series it started this semester off nicely. For years I’ve seen clips from the film, read about the characters and plot, and knew the overall story. Still, there’s nothing like seeing a movie for the first time.
Paddy Chayefsky’s plot seems prescient. TV news is no longer dignified, ratings and profit matter more than informing the public, and multi-national corporations own the news media. Amazing how what looked far-fetched in 1976 seems so matter-of-fact today.
The performances were fantastic. Here’s a clip of Faye Dunaway and William Holden:
Network is a fantastic film. It’s about time I saw it.
