Oscar Who?

As one of the few folks in this country without any kind of TV signal, I’m sitting here catching up on the Oscars by refreshing the IMDB site. I gather that Slumdog Millionaire is going to take it all.

Slumdog was a fun movie and deserving of attention. Does it deserve all the awards? Who knows? I haven’t seen any of the other best pictures. It’s the hazard of living in a town with only 11 screens. We never get any of the Oscar contenders unless they are also big box-office hits. So far, we had Benjamin Button and Slumdog Millionaire show up. Doubt, Frost/Nixon, Milk, and many of the other films nominated for awards never made it here.

Hey, but we do have clean air, pine trees, and great people. So who cares about movies? (Dilettanteville shyly raises her hand) — okay, okay, but can’t I have clean air and good movies too?
